Directed “COMPLETE THE QCD PHASE DIAGRAM“ (English subtitled).

This time, Yasumichi Aoki (at the time of filming, KEK Particle and Nuclear Research Institute, now affiliated with RIKEN) appears. Aoki is creating a ‘phase diagram’ that describes how the properties of matter change based on QCD. The creation of this phase diagram requires a large amount of calculation, which is beyond the capacity of the K computer currently in operation, and is one of the research themes for which results are expected in the coming “post-K computer” era.

“Monthly JICFuS” is a web magazine published by JICFuS (Joint Institute for Computational Fundamental Science), a research organisation jointly established by the University of Tsukuba’s Research Centre for Computational Science, the High Energy Accelerator Research Organisation and the National Astronomical Observatory of Japan.

スーパーコンピュータを用いた研究者の姿に迫る「月刊JICFuS」ムービー「QCD相図の完成を目指して」を演出・制作しました。今回登場するのは青木保道さん（撮影当時・ KEK 素粒子原子核研究所、現・理化学研究所所属）です。青木さんは、QCDにもとづいて物質の性質が変わる様子を記した「相図」を作成しています。この相図づくりには、現在稼働中の「京」をもってしても計算しきれないほどの計算量が必要で、来る「ポスト京」において、成果が期待されている研究テーマの一つです。
