Movie of “Masaki Yukawa solo exhibition 2024”

We interviewed Masaki Yukawa at an exhibition held at the Kobayashi Gallery in August 2024.
When he was a student at the Art Academy in Düsseldorf, Germany, he was making a lot of studies on A3 and A4 size paper to establish his style, and his advisor, Jan Dibbets, told him, “I wonder if you could express your world view better if I express this work in a bigger size than human height”. This is when he began to work on giant works of art.
He also spoke in detail about the characteristics of each of the three new large works and his attempts to create them. Please enjoy the exhibition and interview in this edition.

2024年8月に東京は銀座のコバヤシ画廊で開催された展覧会にて湯川雅紀氏にお話をうかがってきました。

彼がデュッセルドルフ美術アカデミーで作風を確立するためにA3やA4サイズの紙に習作を描きまくっていた時代に、指導教授のヤン・ディベッツから「この作品を大きな、人の背丈よりも大きなサイズで表現したらお前の世界観がよく表されるかな」と言われたところから巨大な作品を手掛けるようになったそうです。

また、今回の大作3点それぞれの特徴や試みについても詳しくお話してくださいました。どうぞ本編にて展覧会とインタビューをお楽しみください。
